没花展
春节期间,在太太的再三要求下,去了一次世纪公园看梅花。门口广告牌上写的梅花展已经开始了。走到去年来过的梅花树集中的地方一看,大失所望。只有三两棵梅花树的枝头有星星点点的梅花开着,大多数花树还处在含苞待放的阶段,好不失望。勉强对着为数不多的梅花扫射了一通,打道回府。
昨天晚上才得空整理了一下,打包成册,名为2008没花展。

今天早上上班,看到公司楼下保安们堆的雪人,蛮可爱的。

今天收到一封以前eBay同事的来信,想听听大家对eBay近期变化的一些看法,在这里把我给她的回信也拿出来和大家分享。
I think it does not help eBay to reverse the weak position for no strong growth point in the coming years. eBay directors and executives should take the risk to embrace the change of "OPEN" trend in stead of trying to build walled garden by leveraging so called "Power of THREE". Amazon did so, and got their reward.
It is quite obvious both marketplace and Paypal business has approached the end of high growth in major economies around the world. There is no significant signal that Skype can provide the new growth power due to the complexity of telecommunication system and regulatory environment
in every country.
On the other hand, there has been more and more local competition to eBay in different vertical area. eBay marketplace is not and does not have enough flexibility to be optimized for local market and vertical category. In the past years, the way eBay handle such competition is numbers of acquisition of local competitors. How eBay does in integrate those business? Worse than Yahoo.
eBay need to make a strategic decision to revamp its position from platform for global trade to TRADE, including all area to expand the arena that supports eBay's future growth. That say, enable everybody sharing eBay ID across platforms, no matter it is for local market, cross border trade, or in a specific vertical industry. By leveraging this, eBay can even open the door to sponsor internal and external new ideas and startups to join eBay family and strengthen the power of the family. There are many assets that eBay owns can be opened to the world, to its subsidiaries to enable local decision and market flexibility.
Tie everybody onto one train and expect the train to conquer the world is the worst decision eBay made to its organization and product. This has to be ENDED!
当然,我并不认为对于一家庞大的上市公司来说,战略方向的改变是什么很容易做的决定。但如果eBay希望避免被收购或因业绩拖累股价,得不到股东、员工支持的局面的话,就必须做出变革。变革是痛苦的,但对于eBay来说,实在是必须的。
